Rev. Dr. Ventra Asana, now retired, is an ordained clergywoman with over 20 years’ experience in two denominations: as an ordained Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, 4th Episcopal District with last charge at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Detroit and Deacon Clergy in the United Methodist Church, serving several parishes in ministries of community outreach and ecology.
Dr. Asana is an eco-minister, ecotheologican, and urban environmentalist who has created and directed numerous community outreach and ecoministry programs at various parishes in Michigan and Illinois including St. Timothy United Methodist Church (Detroit MI), “2nd Thursdays: Ecology Talks” at Metropolitan United Methodist Church (Detroit MI), First United Methodist Church (Ypsilanti MI), Hispanic Outreach program at Pullman United Methodist Church (Chicago IL) and Iglesia Metodista Unida Betania (Bethany United Methodist Church, Chicago, IL). Dr. Asana advocates for the restoration of the urban environment as a key site for improving nature spaces, overall.
As an educator Dr. Asana has taught as adjunct faculty at Ecumenical Theological Seminary (“Introduction to Theological Writing and Research”) and adjunct faculty at Henry Ford College (“College Writing and Research” and “Comparative Religion”) and conducted numerous workshops in spiritual formation and ecological awareness.
